CoEM’s Industry Engagement program will be ‘full steam ahead’ in 2022 with students volunteering, interning and working in paid positions at 100’s of events across not just Sydney or Melbourne, but the whole of the country.
Our Industry Engagement program is an integral part of what makes us special as a college with the purpose of directly engaging students with the events industry from their first day of study. We’ve recently updated our very own exclusive in-house event recruitment agency. Now names Event Talent Agency this incredible service is available to our former and current students only.
Here are some IEP highlights from the last few years.
Electric Gardens
Sydney CoEM students kick started 2016 in paid roles at Electric Gardens. The festival was in its sophomore year at this stage and boasted a hefty line-up featuring none other than big beat powerhouse Fatboy Slim. Melbourne students will have the same opportunity this year, kicking off the New Year with a bang at the Melbourne leg of the tour. We LOVE T100!
Fountain light show at Vivid Sydney

CoEM guest lecturer and all round legend Damian Negus managed a team of our students at none other than Sydney’s stunning Hallmark event Vivid. The team worked on the Martin Place activation which featured a breathtaking living sculpture representing the global birth rate data in the form of ‘human water droplets’ (pictured above). Since its inaugural event in 2009 Vivid has gone from strength to strength and now boasts over 2.3 million attendees. We can only imagine what the years ahead will bring for this amazing event and we’ll be sure to see you there.
Listen Out Festival
Listen Out
Fuzzy’s annual handcrafted party is always sure to deliver the good vibes. CoEM students were given the golden opportunity to work at the Melbourne leg of the event. With a philosophy of best, not biggest the line-up featured some A grade local and international artists such as RÜFÜS, A$AP Ferg and Tash Sultana. Students did a fantastic job in their respective roles and were awarded with lots of praise from their shift managers. Full time student Julianne Carson was a standout (as always) receiving these kind words from her supervisor: “Julieanne was amazing – She managed a small team with ease!” We’ll see you at Listen Out next time.
CoEM students working on the World Vegan Day event
World Vegan Day Melbourne
Lead by CoEM’s own Course Coordinator Garth, the vast majority of Melbourne students were involved in World Vegan Day Melbourne. Students worked in a multitude of roles including; operations, programming, administration, styling and the list goes on… and on. Past student and passionate vegan Ashley Costa got amongst the action in a big way by presenting her own cooking demo as part of the events extensive program. A Team Events (consisting of two ex CoEM students including Ashley Costa and Anna Zarpan) also held an activation on the day promoting their own event titled Dance for the Animals. Overall World Vegan Day had a huge contribution to Melbourne’s Industry Engagement Program.
Colour Run
The Color Run
The Color Run exploded into action in 2011 and has since been hugely successful with events now taking place all around the world. The events purpose is to inspire professionals and novices to run together for fun while promoting healthiness and happiness. The untimed event has no winners, but runners are covered with coloured powder at various stations along the course of the run. CoEM students from both campuses were volunteered at the event in numerous roles. The students had a great time working at the event while also gaining valuable industry experience – here’s a quote from one the students involved – “The Color Run was so much fun! Everyone had a great time, will go back next year!”
Ballarat Fashion Series
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week – Ballarat Fashion Series
With the help of CoEM graduate Alana Deutrom, our good friends at Frank Wild produced the stunning Ballarat Fashion Series in September 2016. The event was Melbourne Spring Fashion Week’s only regional extension, with the purpose to showcase the western districts contribution to Melbourne’s iconic fashion scene through behind-the-scenes fashion industry immersion, exclusive cocktail parties and an artisan designer Trunk Sale.
