Meet Jess, online Diploma graduate and event professional, Perth WA

Apart from our students loving the experience of our events courses there are two things that make us really happy. The first is when a student successfully transitions from graduate to event professional. And the other, when a student experiences high levels of personal growth during their time with us.

Jessica Bowles is a great example of both. When she signed up for our online Event Manager program she did so with a desire for greater purpose in her job role by helping to create positive change through events. What Jess didn’t bargain on was the high level of personal transformation that occurred.

I hoped this institution would hold the key to our success in the events industry. They have not disappointed – we are not only taking with us our Diploma, but the college has helped us to unlock potential we may have been unaware of and have equipped us with a power, confidence, perspective and belief in ourselves that we perhaps didn’t expect.”

What do you love about events?

I love the creativity and possibility of events: electric, unforgettable and unpredictable. With care and commitment, they have the power to really take on a life of their own and make a huge difference.

What led you to study event management online?

With a background in hospitality, I came to the realisation that I had a flare for running the events within the venues I was managing. I believed that through combining my skills and previous experience with my passions; I could really thrive within the industry and find that sense of fulfilment and possibility that I had been craving. I felt that through a career in events, I could have that chance to focus my energy and creativity into something that for me, had real purpose. See more about working in venues here >>

What was the best thing about the online study option?

The flexibility an online study option affords made it possible for me to work full time throughout the course – it was full on at times, but the hard work ultimately paid off.

Tell us a little bit about your online study experience.

The learning material has been inspiring, and we have been intimately connected to the content of the online event management course in its very design through the way it has been integrated with our combined opinions, ideas, and life experiences. The content was in depth and thought provoking and we have been able to engage with each other and build on the ideas of one another. This has made the learning experience organic and so much more significant.

The most valuable lesson I took away from the course centred around the focus on mindsets and how to apply these to your own professional as well as personal development. The way these lessons helped me grow and understand myself and others better was a truly transformative experience for me. I noticed a positive change in myself, as did others, I believe as a direct result of my engagement with this particular aspect of the course content”

Did the online event management course exceed your expectations?

I hoped this institution would hold the key to our success in the events industry. They have not disappointed – we are not only taking with us our Diploma, but the college has helped us to unlock potential we may have been unaware of and have equipped us with a power, confidence, perspective, and belief in ourselves that we perhaps didn’t expect. My diploma with the college and the personal and academic lessons I learnt throughout my time [at CoEM] are invaluable.

What does a typical work day look like in events?

My role is multifaceted; I am involved with everything from the planning and securing of events and functions to their execution so it is very hard to describe a typical day, though they always entail a high level of multi-tasking and creativity. One constant element is the social aspect which I love; I am always working with and around colleagues in a team environment to bring ideas to fruition.

What does a future in events look like for you?

A future in events for me looks loud, fun, busy, rewarding and ever changing; keeping me constantly on the move both mentally and physically, whilst also keeping me grounded and extremely focused; driven toward a purpose to help create positive change and make a difference.
